Full Stack Software Engineer, Freelancer, Employee, Entrepreneur

The Beginning

My name is Joel, I'm a Software Engineer. My journey has taken me through different roles and experiences—I've been a freelancer, an employee, and an entrepreneur. Each chapter has shaped who I am today and taught me valuable lessons about both technology and life.

My Software Development Journey

In 2016, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life. I left the job I loved most as a Service Manager in healthcare, where my support positively impact people's quality of life to live fuller, more and independent lives, to pursue my passion for software development 🤗. I spent a year travelling the world, searching for purpose.. a leap into the unknown..

But it became the greatest adventure of my life. Along the way, and returned more determined than ever to build technology that makes a real difference. 🤗 I've had the privilege of learning from incredible engineers who have challenged, inspired, and helped shape me into a better developer and person. Their support and diverse perspectives have been invaluable to my growth. As a mature student with parental responsibilities, I studied at UCLan University and, in 2022, proudly graduated with a First-Class BSc in Software Engineering. It wasn't an easy journey, but it was one of the most rewarding achievements of my life. 👨‍👩‍👧😊

Contributing to the Community

When I can, I like to contribute to the community in various ways. I publish code on my GitHub profile, write about software engineering, and contribute to other open source projects. I believe in the power of sharing knowledge and helping others grow in their development journey.

What means the most to me is knowing I've been able to help others along the way. I'm naturally resilient, always willing to lend a hand, and I genuinely enjoy sharing what I've learned with others. If something I've built, shared, or experienced encourages someone to keep going or take that next step, then it's all been worthwhile. That's what truly motivates me. 💛

A Message of Gratitude

So, if you're watching this, thank you for being part of this journey. I hope you find something here that inspires you too.

The path isn't always clear. Sometimes, it feels like climbing in the dark, guided only by the faint glow of what you hope to become.

But every step teaches you something. Every stumble shapes your stride. And one day, you look back and realise you've built your own mountain.

Keep climbing. The view is worth it.

Wisdom from Experience

I used to think the best developers were the ones who knew the most. Now I know they're the ones who help the most.

This shift in perspective has fundamentally changed how I approach my work and interactions with fellow developers. Technical knowledge is important, but the ability to mentor, support, and uplift others in the community is what truly makes a difference.
